Born in Reading, he was the son
of William and Diane (Christman) Shields. Mike was loved and known for his big smile, mechanical prowess and need for speed.
A graduate of UTI in Automotive Technology, he enjoyed improving vintage race car engines at the family business restoring antique cars. In the near future, he envisioned opening a Honda performance business.
Racing was in his blood; he started with karts at age
eleven alongside his life-long friend, Matt. More recently, he liked to use his free time to ride dirt bikes with his friends at Trevorton.
Mike was a genuine, big-hearted guy who friends and family could count on when they needed a hand, someone to talk to or instruction on how to fix almost anything (but no one could touch his tools). He will be missed and
remembered by his family and close group of friends.
In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by: two
sisters, Rebecca S., wife of Francis Tay, of Maine, and
Joanna L. Shields, wife of Matthew Poore, of
Massachusetts; two nephews, Sev and Finnegan; and two nieces, Genevieve and Madelyn; maternal grandmother, Nona; as well as many, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 12, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a memorial service
beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. The family would like to collect written remembrances and photos to be shared at an open service. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the
Animal Rescue League, P.O. Box 69, Mohnton, PA 19540.

So sorry for the loss of Mikey. I can remember the two of us playing at your house or ours as we were growing. I am truly sorry that I had lost touch with him. Hoping that you and the rest of the family find peace. You will be in our family's thoughts and prayers.

You were always a kind hearted person and would do anything to help out your friends. We hadn't hung out much over the years but when we did you were always fun to be around. We just saw each other a few days prior and it is so hard to believe this is real. You will always be missed and remembered! Fly high and ride hard my friend!
