He was the husband of Lorraine R. (Siegfried) Schauer. They were married November 9, 1946.
Born in Bowers, he was a son of the late Howard P., Sr., and Lillian M. (Keiser) Schauer.
He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Topton, where he was a former member of the church consistory, and a choir member for over 50 years.
Mr. Schauer was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II. He was employed as a maintenance supervisor by the Borough of Topton for over 30 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of the Ray A. Master Post #217, American Legion, Topton, and an active participant of its honor guard. He was also a member of AMVETS.
Mr. Schauer was a time keeper for Brandywine Heights High School sporting events for over 40 years, and a former member of the Brandywine Minstrels.
Also surviving are son, Brand H. "Skip", husband of Sopa (Konsing) Schauer, Gettysburg; sister, Lorraine (Schauer), widow of Buster Weiser, Riverview Park; grandchildren, Kelly L. (Schauer), wife of Daniel A. Hughes, and Ryan H., husband of Melinda T. (Tillson) Schauer; and great-grandchildren, Ethan J. and Avery C. Schauer.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 122 West Franklin Street, Topton, with the Revered Roger M. Ulrich and David P. Siegfried officiating. Inurnment in Topton Union Cemetery, Topton. Friends may call Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the church.
The family requests contributions be made to the Ray A. Master Post #217, American Legion Honor Guard, 133 Centre Avenue, Topton, PA 19562 or the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, P.O. My family and I are extending our sympathies to Lorraine and her family. My children got to know Howard when he directed traffic at the elementary school. They were saddened to hear of his passing, as was I. He was a great man, and always cheerful! We will miss seeing him around Topton.
