Paul Sanchez Obituary

Paul Joseph Sanchez June 25, 1956 - March 13, 2013 Paul Sanchez, resident of Lakeport, CA, passed away March 13, 2013, after a brief illness. Paul was an amazing friend, wonderful brother, and most of all a beloved son to his parents, Paul and Margie Sanchez of Fremont, CA. Paul was born in Munich, Germany, on June 25, 1956. He lived in Fremont during his earlier years and lived in Lakeport for the past 25 years. Paul's dream was to open up a sports memorabilia store, which he did. He named it "Hey Sport". His knowledge and passion for sports was obvious to all who knew him. His kindness to the less fortunate was felt throughout his time there. He especially loved talking with the local kids as they visited his shop on a daily basis. Paul had a great sense of humor. He loved the outdoors and spent many weekends in Yosemite during his earlier years. He loved movies and collected many to watch with family and friends. Words cannot express our loss and sadness. He leaves behind his parents; sisters, Josie, Theresa and Christine; and several nephews and nieces. We hope all that knew Paul will come celebrate his life on Saturday, March 23, 2013, from 1-3 p.m. at The Chapel of the Lakes, 1625 High Street, Lakeport, CA. Call 707-263-0357 or visit www. chapelofthelakes.com for more information. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to local youth sports programs. Please share your memories by signing the guest book at www.legacy.com.

Memories and Condolences
for Paul Sanchez

Not sure what to say?

I met Paul when I was around 10 years old. My family vacationed in Clear Lake every summer and I would always look forward to rides in Lakeport with my dad and brother because it meant we would get to see Paul (and of course buy some baseball cards). He was one of the most genuine men I have ever met. I have such great memories of sitting in his shop and talking with him. My dad loved to chat with Paul too and he would always buy Paul a soda as we ate our sandwiches in his Hey Sport shop.
As I got older I still would go visit Paul on my own. I would always bring my new girlfriend by to meet Paul because I knew if he thought she was cool then I knew she was a keeper.
I miss you Paul and think about you often.

It's hard to believe this was six years ago...I remember how crushed I was as a teenager who loved coming in and talking baseball with you to find out you had passed. I thought I heard that "Hey Sport" was going to be reopened in some capacity but I never saw anything about it (also moved away from LC since then), so I'd love to hear if that ever happened. Card-collecting isn't the same without Paul - wish I could show you some of my newest additions. I will be praying for you.

Hey paul everyday I miss you dearly. I got that Bryce Harper mini auto in the mail it sold on ebay for 246.00. Not bad :) I know that your in heaven with god watching down on me. I remember the first day I walked trough those doors at hey sport I introduced myself and left there an hour later with my first jersey. Over the years we became brothers and you were a class act for real. I'll miss you my friend for ever. And I'll make it a thing to talk to my kids about the best human being I've ever met Paul Sanchez. Love You :') and before I go I still got the two New Jersey Devils jerseys. Other than that I don't do jerseys or collect cards. Have a good one my friend. P.S sell someone a jersey in Heaven.

You my dear friend will be missed by a lot of us who spent the many years shooting hoops, trading cards, playing PAC-man, Nintendo, and of course those Taco Bell runs we were sent on. You were always the the leader of the club house for us and even through the years of us getting older and moving away I always felt home when I walked through the front door. I'm glad Gerry and I made it there last summer to catch up and hang out. And to answer your question last summer.... Yes Posey is going to carry the team and Melky will never be I a Giants uniform. Of course you saw that too.... You will be missed by all of us card sharks and hope you lived your life knowing that without you, a lot of us kids would not have grown up being the people we are today! Rest in peace my friend!

:( :( u were my only blood uncle! I hadent seen u for years until the last xmas when finally after 32 years i smacked a chip out if ur hand in oma`s kitchen and asked u if u were going to eat that. I use to tell all my friends that my uncle paul was the funniest guy in the world, and how u won class clown in high school. Or how when i was little u would pick me up by my ankles and shake me up and down to get any change to fall out of my pockets. Ill never forget how freaked out u were when u crashed the bike with me on the back and u thought my leg snapped! Probably the most understanding man ever! Im sorry ur gone from earth, but i know ur making angles laugh their wings off. I love u uncle paul.

Hey Uncle Paul,

Every time my mom told me that we were going to Oma's and Opa's for Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Easter, the first thing I would ask would be, "Is Uncle Paul going to be there?" You always made my brother and I laugh, whether it be with jokes or you knocking food out of our hands while saying, " You gunna eat that?" I also will never forget the times we played basketball behind Oma and Opa's.
I am going to miss you a lot, but I know you will be watching over all of us.

Paul was a wonderfully kind and patient man. Paul had a genuine gift for connecting with kids, and I will always remember the kindness and friendship Paul showed my family whenever we saw him. We will all miss Paul, and hope that his family will find comfort in the genuine admiration we all had for this fine man.

Hey Paul,

I will always remember the hours spent in your shop talking sports, cards, movies, and what ever else came up.

The last few years I would pop into your shop on or around your birthday to wish you a good one. You would always ask how I knew when I hadn't visited in a couple months - truth is buddy, I had it programmed into my calendar when you told me one time so I wouldn't forget.

You were a good friend and will be missed.

PAUL WE HAD ALOT OF GOOD TIMES GROWING UP PLAYING BASEBALL AND BASKETBALL TOGETHER. YOU WERE A GOOD GUY NEVER LOOKED FOR TROUBLE. MAY YOU BE WITH GOD TODAY AND FOREVER BROTHER

March 25, 2013

Hi,Paul. This is Mary Behrens, Nick Wainwright and Forrest Seagrave's mother. I didn't know you very well, but it was always fun talking to you at the shop when I did. And I know that Nick thought highly of you. Thanks for selling him the Dan Marino jersey for my birthday so cheaply. We will miss going by the shop and seeing you. If you see my son Forrest, tell him that I love him. And, if you see Ron Foreman, tell him hi also. Thanks. We will all miss you, Paul.

Paul I'll miss you man! I remember meeting you when my head wouldn't reach over the counter and we continued being friends until this and will remain friends forever. You'll always be in my heart. I remember about 3/10/2013 or shortly before. I came in the shop and your expressed your condolences to me about my brother Forrest Seagrave and that we should go grab a bite to eat in the near future. I was thinking of telling you "how bout after you close shop for the day?" And I didn't. Cause I knew even though the shop may be closed for the day you may be going out riding your bike wich you enjoyed so much. I hardly ever seen you drive your car. Lol. Man Paul I'm so sorry I didn't reccomend that day we go eat I'm extremly sorry for missing your services. I feel guilty. I thought your family was going to have a private service or your obituary was written in another paper closer to your families home town. Paul it should have never of been written at least not for another 50 years. Paul I love you man. Do me a favor well your up there in heaven watch over me along with my brother Forrest Seagrave and my best friend Ron Foremon. Save me a seat with you angels. I'm sure all YOUR fans well playing sports or watching them first person there gonna think of is the biggest, happiest, and caring sports fan Paul Sanchez. God bless you!

Last fall, there was only one thing my son wanted for his 12th birthday: a 45 minute drive to Lakeport so he could trade baseball cards and look at stuff at Mr. Sanchez' shop. Our prayers are with your family and friends who will miss you so much. May Jesus welcome you, Paul Sanchez, with as much kindness and generosity as you showed the kids in your shop.

Mr. Sanchez was a great friend to me and some of my friends in Lakeport. When ever we came to his shop, he was always happy to see us and traded Baseball cards with us. He would also buy random sports related items from us, such as Gatorade bottles with basketball players on them. He was always very nice, and promised that if he ever got any of my favorite players, he would save them for me. Thank you Paul Sanchez for being such a great friend to everyone who entered your shop! John Macdonald (age 12)

I got to know Paul by delivering his mail. We would get so involved talking sports, and how it related to life, that I would always be running late after my visit to his shop. Instead of feeling stressed about my schedule, I always got a "warm/fuzzy" instead. The kind of feeling you only get from a friend who makes you feel like you are the most important part of his day. I will miss my weekly chats with Paul immensely. I lost a good friend...the world lost a positive force. I know you are resting in peace my friend because you already were at peace.

Paul was very generous to me and my two brothers whenever we came in. We always left happy. He knew a lot about baseball, but he always said I knew more than him. One of my favorite memories is when I traded a card with a piece of the original film from "Spiderman" for a box of Yankees. He managed to remember that one of us was a Yankee fan, one a Red Sox fan, and the other a Rays fan, and he made sure to accomadate us. The last time we saw him, he gave me a bunch of 2013 cards for my birthday, including Derek Jeter, my favorite player. We will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace, and may God comfort his family and friends.
