1924 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
Robert "Bob" Gordon Morrell Robert "Bob" Gordon Morrell born December 12, 1924, in Calistoga, CA, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017. He grew up in Lake County and graduated from Lower Lake High School. Bob served his country attaining the rank of 1st Lt. in the Army Air Corp during WWII as a P38 fighter pilot in the South Pacific. He flew Southern Philippines, Luzon, and New Guinea. He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, European African Middle Eastern service medal, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars. Bob's name and rank is inscribed on the Wall of Honor at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum with the 475th Fighter Group, 433rd Fighter Squadron. He was an avid hunter and made many hunting trips to Colorado, Nevada, and Alaska. After retiring from his County career as Road Superintendent, he lead the construction of the bridge at Indian Valley reservoir. As a heavy equipment operator he cleared many acres of land for vineyards throughout Lake County. The last 28 years of his life was spent living in Long Valley, his favorite place in Lake County, where he spent a lot of time during his childhood years. Bob has many friends and relatives who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife of 73 1/2 years, Nola Mae (Marr) Morrell of Clearlake Oaks; daughters, Cheryl Craddick of Clearlake Oaks, and Vicki Morrell of Napa; grandson, Shawn Palmer of Casper, WY; granddaughter, Kristi Sundberg of Sutter Creek; great-granddaughter, Kelly Palmer of Casper, WY; great-grandson, Aiden Sundberg of Sutter Creek; step-granddaughter, Tami (Ed) Flyntz of Westchester, PA; step-great-grandsons, Joseph (Emily) Flyntz of Chester Springs, PA, and Matthew (Heather) Flyntz of Orange, CA. Bob was predeceased by his parents of Lower Lake, Milo and Annie Morrell (nee Shaul). Our ancestry reaches back five generations in Lake County. Bob's great-grandfather, Albert Morrell, was the first school teacher at what is now known as the Lower Lake Schoolhouse Museum. Bob's family would appreciate Memorial donations be made to .
