Lorraine Alice Bassignani

Obituary Condolences

Lorraine Alice Bassignani Lorraine passed away peacefully with family by her side on July 28, 2014, in Fairfield, CA. Lorraine was born in Cambridge, MA, to Evelyn Ann and Andrew Joseph Welsh. She was the oldest of four children. Lorraine moved from Cambridge to California in February of 1945. She attended Richmond High and soon after high school, she married and had her first son, Robert Kelly Mclean (Kelly). While raising Kelly, she worked at different jobs including Hinks Department store in Berkeley. While working at Gordon's Drive-In as a car hop, Lorraine met Leonard Bassignani. They fell in love. In 1957 they married and lived in Richmond, CA. Their second child, Mitchell Paul (Mitch), was born in 1959 and in 1966 their youngest, Daniel Brett (Brett), was born. Len and Lorraine lived in Pinole Valley until 1988. Lorraine was an avid reader, a poet, and as everyone who knew her, a great artist and painter. She loved movies, art, animals, her children, and her husband... not necessarily in that order. In 1988, Len, Lorraine, Brett, and Kelly started a new chapter in their lives and the couple moved to Nice, CA, where Featherbed Railroad Resort began. During this time, Lorraine put to work all her artistic talent into making Featherbed a popular destination for travelers from around the globe. She designed all of the rooms using her creative skills, and it was beautiful.... Lorraine also did all of the cooking for Featherbed. The elaborate breakfasts were enjoyed by all of the guests. Len and Lorraine retired in 2006 from Featherbed and built a beautiful home on the lake. Lorraine is survived by her three sons, Kelly Mclean (Sherry) of Fairfield, Mitch Bassignani (Amy) of Fairfield, and Brett Bassignani (Danielle) of Upper Lake; 11 grandchildren, and five great- grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother, Donald Welsh (Kay) of Concord, her sister, Sandra Welbourn (Mike) of Sonoma, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, July 28, 2013, her brother, Tom Welsh, and her parents. Lorraine will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Saint Josephs Catholic Church in Pinole, CA. In honor of Lorraine the spirit of the celebration will be glamour, grace and sparkle. Lorraine will be laid to rest with her husband Leonard in Upper Lake, CA.
