Carl Willard Goodwin

SOUTHINGTON - Carl Willard Goodwin passed away on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013. He was the loving husband of Lavina (Lank) Goodwin.

He was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Fitchburg, Mass., the son of Clarence Goodwin Dorothy (Blackwood) Goodwin. He graduated from Calais Academy, Calais, Maine in 1942, and was a World War ll Navy veteran. He lived in Robbinston, Maine until 1950. He retired from Solvents Recovery in Southington at the age of 72. He went on to work for New Britain Transportation until the spring of 2012. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed attending races at Stafford Springs with his sons and grandsons. He was most proud of his family and loved when everyone got together.

He leaves behind his wife, Lavina, of Southington; his sons, Peter, of Southington, and Calvin, of Prospect; and daughters, Ellen Niles, of Bristol, and Donna Pelletier, of Southington, and their spouses; a sister, Phyllis Benson, of Robbinston, Maine; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald; and a great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held on Feb. 23, at 11 a.m., at Central Baptist Church on West Street, Southington. Donations in his name may be made to the USS Slater Museum at www.ussslater.org
