WALLINGFORD - Claire S. St. Arnaud Abernathy, 80, of Ashlar Village, Wallingford, formerly of Lexington, Mass., died, Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the Masonicare Health Center. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Abernathy.
She was born in Fitchburg, Mass., Nov. 21, 1930, a daughter of the late Armand St. Arnaud, Sr., and Flora Croteau St. Arnaud, and had been a long time resident of Lexington, Mass., before moving to Wallingford. She was a graduate of Mount St. Mary College and earned her master's degree from Simmons University in Boston, Mass. Clair was employed as a librarian at Harvard University
, until her retirement, and enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her two daughters, Evelyn C. Abernathy and her husband, Douglas Silin, of Cheshire, and Janine S. Abernathy and her husband, Joseph Markham, of Mashpee, Mass.; her son, William J. Abernathy and his wife, Yun, of Glen Ridge, N.J.; her seven grandchildren, David, Danielle, Maxwell, Stephanie, Lucas, Chase and Cameron; her sister, Barbara O'Malley, of Leominster, Mass.; her brother, Armand St. Arnaud, Jr., of Lunenburg, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Saturday, April 9, from 1 until 1:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held in The Wallingford Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Interment in Westview Cemetery in Lexington, Mass. will be private.
