WATERFORD, Conn. - Donna Burke-Howes, 59, of Waterford, Conn., died on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 after a brief but fierce battle with cancer. She was born to Edward and Nancy Burke Jr., on June 9, 1955, in Meriden, Conn.
Donna graduated from Francis T. Maloney High School in 1973 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 1993 and Master of Science degree in nurse midwifery in 2002, from the Medical University of South Carolina. Donna was an avid lover of horses, dogs, and warm weather. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and took great care and pride in helping countless mothers deliver their newborns as a nurse-midwife over the course of her distinguished career.
Donna is survived by her parents; her sister, Dianne Burke, of Meriden; her children, Melanie Travers, of Silver Spring, Md.; Rebecca Travers, of Asheville, N.C.; and Jacob Howes, of Waterford, Conn.; and her six grandchildren, London, Micah, Lila, Lennox, Jude, and Elliot.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 1, at 5:30 p.m., at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service, from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
