Harry Hudson Athorne

MERIDEN - Harry Hudson Athorne, 80, husband of the late Loretta (Righton) Athorne, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

Born in Meriden on Jan. 6, 1933, he was the son of the late Harry C. Athorne and Alice (Hudson) Athorne. Mr. Athorne graduated from Meriden High School in 1951. He was a veteran with U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a South Meriden volunteer fireman. Early in his career, he worked as a mailman and went on to work at the City of Meriden Assessor's Office. He then worked as a truant officer, and later retired from the State of Connecticut DCS.

Mr. Athorne is survived by his children, Dana, of Westbrook, Linda Hettrick, of Cheshire, and Diane and her husband, Barry Ritchie; grandchildren, Jaclyn Shields (Ian) and Nicole Ritchie; great-grandchildren, Kadence Camp and Ethan Camp.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 22, at 10:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial with military honors will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
