MERIDEN - John "Jack" H. Bremer, 86, husband of the late Jane E. (Bruton) Bremer, died on Monday, April 8, 2013, at Middlesex Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Meriden on May 16, 1926, he was the son of the late Herbert J. and Helen (Sinon) Bremer. He was a lifelong Meriden resident. Jack was the co-owner and proprietor of the family business, The South Meriden House for over 40 years and was employed by the Aero Gasket Corporation for several years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II
, having served with the U.S. Navy
as a gunner's mate in the Pacific from 1944 to 1945. He was an active parishioner of Holy Angels Church and was a member of the South Meriden Fire Department, the Knights of Columbus and the YMCA of Middletown. Jack was an avid pilot and boater. He loved the beach and enjoyed history. He was also an avid reader who enjoyed book signings and visiting the library. One of his favorite pastimes was attending the Coast Guard Academy concerts in New London. His favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events, musicals, dancing and theater performances.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Larson and her husband, John, of Cromwell; three sons, John M. Bremer and his wife, Sharon, of Wisconsin, Timothy J. Bremer and his wife, Earlene, of Higganum and Thomas H. Bremer, of Texas; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert Bremer.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 13, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial with Military Honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
