Luigi Calabrese

WATERTOWN - Mr. Luigi Calabrese, 89, of 1016 Bunker Hill Road, passed away peacefully at Waterbury Hospital on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was the widower of Maria (Rinaldi) Calabrese.

Luigi was born in Pontelandolfo, Benevento Italy on May 14, 1924, son of the late Salvatore and Vittoria (Muccineciaro) Calabrese. He served in the Italian Army during World War II. He moved to Argentina in 1958, and later settled to the U.S. in 1968. He worked for the City of Meriden Highway department for 18 years, retiring in 1986. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church in Meriden. He enjoyed gardening, and making his home-made wine, and playing bocci and playing cards.

Luigi leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Mennata Buscemi, of Watertown ,Vittorio Calabrese and his wife, Antonietta, of Watertown, and Antoinette Calabrese with whom he made his home with in Watertown; his sister, Anna Migliori, of Meriden; four grandchildren, Antonio Buscemi and his wife, Noemi, Maria Calabrese, Luigi Calabrese, and Nicholas Scaturchio; and two great grandchildren, Anthony and Andrew Buscemi. He was predeceased by four brothers, Mennato, Giovanni, and Angelo, and Nunzio Calabrese.

Funeral will be held, Saturday, March 29, 8 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway to St. John the Evangelist Church in Watertown for a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. Entombment will follow at Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Meriden.
