WALLINGFORD - Michael Daniel Santos, 69, of Wallingford passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Verniece Hall-Santos.
Mr. Santos was born in New Haven on March 4, 1945, son of the late Daniel A. and Teresa Fernandes Santos. He graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in 1964. He joined the U.S. Navy
and served for four years as an aircraft mechanic. He was a driver for Dichello Distributors for more than 20 years prior to his retirement. He was a longtime member of St. Martin dePorres Church and served as parish council president. He was also an active member of the stewardship committee; volunteered many hours with the Breakfast Program and was instrumental in establishing the annual church picnic. He was an active member of the former Cape Verdean Club of New Haven. Michael was a man of quiet strength, amazing humility and an enormous and generous heart.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Andre (Iris)Vickers, of San Antonio, Texas, and Jason (Arianne) Freeman, MD of Washington, D.C.; three daughters, Cassandra Santos and Melissa (Chad) Santos-Jeffries, both of New Haven and Kristin (Troy) Freeman-Stupart, of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Daniel (Margie) Santos Jr., of Hamden; sisters, Rose Santos, of New Haven, Elizabeth (David) Lewis and Joan Kelly, both of Charlotte, N.C., Mary Santos, of Lithonia, Ga., Teresa Santos-Jones, of West Haven, Gloria Goode, of Turnersville, N.J. and Sharon Bordeaux (Bishop Hector,) of New Haven; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by two sisters, Frances Santos Jackson and Claudia Santos Silva.
Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St., (cor. Dwight) New Haven Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m., and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial in St. Martin dePorres Church, 136 Dixwell Ave., New Haven Thursday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. Interment, with military honors, in All Saints Cemetery.
