WALLINGFORD - Paul Samual Nere, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at Masonicare Acute Care Hospital in Wallingford. Paul was the beloved husband of Jean (Vrana) Nere for 66 years.
Born in 1925 in Valley Stream, Long Island, N.Y., Paul enjoyed a long life of varied activities and opportunities. He served as a bombardier radio operator in the Air Force during World War II
. After he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Gettysburg College, he worked in his father's business in Chiara Fashions, at 265 Canal Street, New York City.
He was drawn to the field of hospital pharmaceutical sales and was promoted to regional manager. He was rewarded by Bristol-Myers Squibb when he won the "Best of Bristol Award" in 1984. Retirement was filled with a part-time position as a zoning enforcement officer in Killingworth, Conn.; spending winters at their villa on Long Boat Key, Fla.; playing tennis and bridge; and traveling. China and Africa were among his favorite trips. His interests kept him active for years.
Paul was predeceased by his brothers, John "Jack" Nere and August Miller. In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his son, Stephen Nere (Pat); his grandsons, Zack and Seth (Mallory); and two great-grandsons, Ayden and Gavan.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford. Burial with military honors will be held at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Conn., on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 12 p.m. A memorial service conducted by Carl H.
