Lelia Green Obituary
Born Oct. 24, 1927, in Doswell, Va. she was a daughter of the late Louis and Helen (Goodall) Tillman-Mines. Lelia was a devout member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church before she became ill where she was also a member of the Missonette Choir. She was a mother to many non-biological children. She would always treat them as if they were her own.
In addition to her husband, Edward she is survived by three daughters, Hazel (Tina) Tillman-Hoffler and Vanessa Tillman, both of Meriden and Loretta (Nadine) Bryant, of Maryland; five sons , Albert (Angela) Tillman, of New Jersey, Reginald (Adelaida) Green, of New Britain, Edmund, Rodney and Donald Green, all of Meriden; a step-son, Edward Green Jr., (Rose,) of Meriden and a step-daughter, Edna Chapman. She also leaves six sisters, Lynell Smithers, Laura Johnson, Valerie Mines-Harris, Sarah Jane Mines, Helen Tillman and Della Coleman, all of Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Mary Shelton and Earlene Mines; a niece, Ernistine Mason who hold a special place in her heart; a host of other nieces and nephews; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sons, Wesley, Marvin and Christopher Tillman; two step-daughters, Susan Williams and Doris Green; and two brothers, Roger Mines and Horace Mines.
A funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, 84 Franklin St., Meriden. The
Rev. William Young will officiate. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations in Lelia's memory may be made to Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, 84 Franklin St., Meriden, CT 06451. The Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden is in charge of the arrangements. To send a condolence please see obituary at www.beecherandbennett.com
