Dear Chet, Johnnie, Michael, Steven and the extended Mendyka family. I too have such wonderful memories of Joyce and Ridgeland Circle. Your mom used to have me come over and visit. I never knew if she was babysitting for me or enjoyed my company as the daughter she never had. She taught me how to make chocolate chip cookies - and to this day, I am the chocolate chip cookie Queen (baker). I do a pretty good job of eating them too.
Joyce always had a beautiful flower and vegetable garden in the back yard. The garden seem huge to me at that time. You used to have a little kid swimming pool in the back of your house. If I remember, it was on a patio. I would get in that pool and spend hours - yes, hours in the pool. Your mom would keep an eye on me from the kitchen window. She'd always joke that I would get all wrinkled if I stayed in much longer.
Joyce and my mom always had the greatest respect and love for each other which they maintained into their 80's. I think they last saw one another in 2007. I drove to Ridgeland, picked up your mom and drove her over to my condo so she and my mom could have lunch together. We had some good laughs. Our memories of living next door to you will always be fond.
From the road looking at the house, see if you can still find the patch of 4-leaf clovers by the front left corner of the house. Noelle always found so many. It always amazed me! I never found any. Perhaps Joyce will provide some to all of you as a happy parting message.

Dear Chet and Family, Joyce was a wonderful friend and neighbor to the William Johnson family. We shared so many happy times on Ridgeland Circle with games on the breezeway, rides to church, and Joyce's delicious cooking. Joyce was a truly loving person and shared that love so unselfishly. My mother cherished their friendship; now they live on in God's love and protection.
