MERIDEN - Adam S. Podgorski, Sr., 88, loving husband of Shirley (Smietana) Podgorski, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at Regency House of Wallingford after a lengthy illness.

Born in Meriden on April 1, 1924, he was the son of the late Stanley and Katherine (Yaros) Podgorski. A lifelong Meriden resident, he graduated from Meriden schools and attended Bliss and Devry. Mr. Podgorski was employed by New Departure, Hyatt Division of General Motors and was a Veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army.
Beside his wife, he is survived by a son, Adam Podgoski, Jr., and his wife, Ruth-Ann, of Meriden; three grandchildren, Adam III and his wife, Midori, Aaron, and Reneé Shotwell and her husband, Eric; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters; and a brother.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. at the State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. Family and friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden on Thursday (TODAY), from 5 to 7 p.m.
