Alice H. Cavallo Benwell

SOUTHINGTON- Alice H. Cavallo Benwell, 91, of Southington, beloved wife of 66 years of Daniel K. Benwell Sr., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, in her home.

Alice was born in North Haven, July 20, 1922, a daughter of the late Louis Cavallo and Natalie Rivizza Cavallo and had been a Southington resident for many years. She was employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in North Haven until her retirement and was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church in Southington. Alice loved music and to dance, she also enjoyed cooking for her family and liked to play the organ. Alice and Daniel lived in Sarasota, Fla., for 17 years and loved walking the Siesta Key beach looking for shells. She adored and cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Besides her husband Daniel, she is survived by her son, Daniel K. Benwell Jr., and his wife, Nancy, of Wolcott; and her daughter, Jacquelyn V. Sherman and her husband, Richard, of Florida; her five grandchildren, Brett Redfern, Michael DeMartino and his wife, Julie, Christy Giannattasio and her husband, Joseph, Daniel K. Benewell III, and Timothy Benwell; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Bernardoni and Irene Gillespie; and her four brothers, Joseph, John, Alfred, and Mario Cavallo.

Her family would like to thank the VNA Hospice of Southington and the Southington Care Center for the wonderful care and compassion given to Alice.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Friday, Jan. 10, from 5 until 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m. directly in St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
