Allyn Chabot Obituary

Allyn S. Chabot "Butch" as he was known to family and friends, died at Hartford Hospital after a long illness Wedensday, Nov. 6, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Valerie H. Chabot and a lifelong resident of Meriden.

He was born in Putnam, but soon moved to Meriden, where his grandfather Victor Lucchini owned Coe Farm located where Platt, Lincoln and Wilcox now stand. He enjoyed his childhood on the farm. There is now a bench of as part of the Linear Trail commemorating his grandmother and grandfather and the farm. He attended Bordentown Military Institute in New Jersey and graduated from Platt High School. After High School, he went into the U.S. Navy to serve his country. He was stationed in California. He worked for 35 years at Meriden Wallingford Hospital and MidState Medical Center serving in many capacities over the years. He took great pride in laying out the Christmas display each year. He was a parishioner of All Saints Church in Meriden all his life. He and Valerie met at the church through a Young People's Fellowship and they were married there. They served on many boards and started the group called "Happenings" bringing couples into church with social events. They also organized a fund raiser bringing the Kingston Trio to Meriden.

Butch and Valerie enjoyed many years vacationing on Brandy Pond in Maine, so much so, they bought their own home there. He loved his time in Maine. He enjoyed sitting on the deck of his summer home looking over the Pond. It was time he treasured. They made many friends and created great memories.

He loved animals and especially is beloved Pikzee his Boston Terrier. He had an artistic streak that came out on many of his drawings. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan and a huge UCONN Basketball fan. He could be found cheering alongside friends and his wife, never missing a game. He was a music lover with a very eclectic collection of records and CD's. He loved John Wayne always living by the slogan "A man has to do what a man has to do".

I was sorry to hear of Allyn's passing. I met you Valerie when we were at Miss Rhoda Burleigh's dancing class and then went to Benjamin Franklin with you. I met Allyn at Platt and often chatted with him. He was always very friendly and we had some wonderful discussions. Reading his obituary, I was able to see that he's had a rich, full life. Please accept my sincere sympathy.
