ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Colonel Thomas M., McKeon, U.S. Army(ret), Infantry, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Bon Secours, St. Petersburg, Fla.

He was born Aug. 2, 1916, to Thomas J. McKeon and Bertha Fritz McKeon, of Wallingford. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Gertrude Benish McKeon, a decorated World War II flight nurse. He is predeceased by his siblings, Dorothy Rose Kelley, Bernice F. McKeon, Ruth Anne Mulvey, Robert G. McKeon and Dr. Charles F. McKeon.
Surviving him are daughter, Sandra B. LaScola (Tony; ) and son, Thomas M. McKeon Jr., (Dr. Martha Price); grandchildren, Laura Walsh(Brian) Michael Pastore, Dr. Bri Anne McKeon and Price Leigh McKeon; and great- grandchildren, Zachary, Brandon, Joshua, and Alyvia Walsh. He attended Lyman Hall High School, Wallingford, and being an avid athlete he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team. At the beginning of World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Private and was promoted to Colonel over the years. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge with Star. His is a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Christ the King usher, and served in the Atomic Bomb Test Plumbob, August 1957 in Nevada.
A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m., Christ The King Church, 821 S Dale Mabry Hwy followed by a celebration at the home of Thomas M. McKeon Jr., and Dr. Martha A. Price.
