Donald Smith Obituary

MERIDEN - Donald E. Smith, 87, of Meriden, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 6, 2013, at MidState Medical Center.

Born in Oakfield, Maine on June 5, 1925, Donald was the son of the late Vernon and Glendelia (Glennie) Smith. He leaves his soul mate of 62 years, Edna Smith.

In addition to his wife Edna, he leaves a son, Robert and his wife, Muriel ,of Cromwell; a daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Tom, of Portland. He also leaves four granddaughters, Nicki, Becca, Melissa and Theresa; and nine great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Artie, from St. Cloud, Fla.; and Taffy (his four legged baby girl). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Donald attended schools in Oakfield, Maine. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 90th Infantry Division in five different theaters of operation and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. After the war ended, he served in the military police until he was honorably discharged. He was employed in the plastics industry for 45 years, retiring as General Manager of All Molded Plastics, Co. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., D.A.V., Meriden Industrial Management Club and the First Baptist Church in Meriden.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 460 Broad St., in Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial with military honors will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at The John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Friday, May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to American Cancer Society, New England Division, 38 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06854-2328. . my dad was the best father i know.there are no words to descibe my feelings.Always had a joke, laugh or something funny to say.That man never raised his voice. He was always there for us.but now he is with his mom, dad, millie and bunny(his Sisters)and i will some how learn to live without his smiling face asking what'ch been up to.Daddy i miss you already.
