SOUTHINGTON- Edmund Toifl, 93, of Southington passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at the Woodlake Nursing Home in Tolland.
Born Dec. 20, 1920, in Meriden, Edmund was the son of the late John and Gertrude Toifl. He is predeceased by Jean D. Toifl, his wife of 59 years. Edmund was a member of the St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in New Britain and a retired lead machinist of the New Departure Division of General Motors where he had worked for over 50 years. He loved all sports and was a diehard fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and the UCONN Huskies. He enjoyed the Connecticut coast line and visits to Pennsylvania and Knobel's Grove Amusement Park where he rode the rides until he was 92.
Edmund is survived by his brother, Charles Toifl, of Wallingford; cousins, Paul Ritsick and wife, Karin, of Tolland, Stacey Sklenar and husband, Steve, of N. Branford, Julie Ritsick and fiancée, Peter Kotowski, of Braintree, Mass., and David and Donna Dubick, of Drums, Pa.
Over the years Edmund has received remarkable care from Dr. Glaser of Southington. In recent months Edmund was also cared for by the staff at Woodlake of Tolland. Family members will remain eternally grateful for all the compassion, assistance and dedication provided to Edmund.
A Pana Chyda service will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. Calling hours will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
