George M. Touma

SOUTHINGTON- George M. Touma, 90, of Southington passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at HCC in New Britain.

Born Jan. 6, 1923, in Danbury to the late Assied and Lillian (NeJaime) Touma, he grew up in East Port Chester, N.Y. and had been a longtime Southington resident. George defended our freedom in the U.S. Navy during World War II, earning many medals. He then founded GMT Mfg. Co. Inc. in Plantsville in 1947. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Southington, and a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Freemasons, the American Legion, and Shriners International. He was an avid deep-sea fisherman for 50 years.

George is survived by four children, Gay Touma, of Willimantic, George Touma Jr., of Plantsville, Guy Touma and his wife, Kristen, of Southington ,and Gerrilyn LeClair and her husband, Mark, of Winchester; four grandchildren who brought him great joy, Matthew, Nicholas, Nathan, and Kayleigh Touma; his sister, Genevieve Haddad; many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and many loving caregivers. He was predeceased by his wife, Nedda (Haddad) Touma; sister, Elizabeth Santaus; and brother, Philip Touma.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 145 Main St., Southington. Burial with full military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S.
