WALLINGFORD - George W. Candee Jr., 67, of Wallingford, and Lake Dunmore, Salisbury, Vt., devoted and loving husband of 33 years to Joan Curley Candee, passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at his home.

He was born in Derby on May 24, 1945. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from U.S. Air Force where he served with the military police. He retired after 30 years of service from State of Connecticut Labor Department, Veterans Employment Services. George spent his career with the Labor Department serving and helping veterans in the New Haven, Bristol, Meriden and Middletown Offices. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans; Shaw-Sinon Post 73 American Legion, Wallingford; Moosalamoo Club, Inc., where he served as a member of the Board of Directors and as secretary.

Surviving besides his wife are his sister, Susan Fitzpatrick, of Seymour; sisters-in-law, Carol Northrop and her husband, Walter, of North Haven and Mary Critchett, of Seymour; his brothers, James Candee (Terry,) of Coral Springs, Fla., and Thomas Candee (Diane,) of Attleboro, Mass.; a special nephew, Thomas V. Northrop (Lauren) and their children, William and Ciara, of Bloomfield Township, Mich.; special nieces, Cheryl Northrop, of North Haven, Judi Rowland (David) and their daughter, Kenzi, of Seymour, Mary Blanco and her daughters Madison and Makayla, of Austin, Texas, and Carlynn Candee, of Fort Meyers, Fla., and his daughter, Michelle Brock. Special friends, Bob and JoAnn Kelsey, of Cheshire, Tom, Bridie, and Rita O'Dea, of New Haven, Theo and Gary Dupoise, of Salisbury, Vt., Wayne and Carolyn LaSalle, of West Haven; Diane and Francis Stevens of Salisbury, Vt.; and many more friends in both Connecticut and Vermont. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Esther Candee Sr.; his mother, Ruth W. Woodford; his daughter, Tania Hodge; his brother, Frank E. Critchett; and his nephew, Michael V. Northrop.

His funeral will be held at Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm St., West Haven on Saturday at 12 p.m. Burial with full military honor will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
