Giuseppe Zacchia Obituary

SOUTHINGTON- Giuseppe Zacchia, 74, of Southington, devoted husband of the late Francesca (DeMatteis) Zacchia passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at MidState Medical Center after courageously battling heart disease for 36 years.

He was born on July 27, 1939, in Treglia, La Provincia Caserta, Italy, to Vincenzo and Maria (Carusone) Zacchia. In pursuit of a better future for the family, his journey of life landed him in Montreal, Canada in 1959, with a final destination of Southington, in 1971. Prior to becoming disabled due to congestive heart disease, he was a machinist for Stanley Tools, General Electric and Ideal Forge.

Giuseppe is survived by his loving son, Vincenzo Zacchia and daughter-in-law, Virginia; cherished grandchildren, Amanda and Joseph. In addition he leaves a sister, Rosa Izzo; a brother, Guarino and wife, Angelina, all of Southington; and sister-in-law, Mary Zacchia, of Enfield; nieces and nephews, Frank Izzo and Marilyn, Josie Morrison and John, Vincent Zacchia and Kim, Mario Izzo and Teresa, Angelo Zacchia and Maria, Maria Gagnon and Bob. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Francesca; brother, Tomasso Zacchia; and brother-in-law, Giuseppe Izzo. Also, many loving relatives and friends in Montreal and Italy. Besides his unconditional love of family and friends, Giuseppe had several lifelong passions. He was an avid gardener known for his homemade tomato sauce, a fanatic of Napoli soccer, an active parishioner of St. Thomas Church, enjoyed making homemade wine, and took pleasure in cooking his favorite Italian dishes for his family. He will be deeply missed by all including a man's best friend, the family dog, Nike.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 9:45 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to St. Thomas Church at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. I am so sad to hear this news. I greatly admired Mr. Zacchia. His love for his family was his number one priority. He never missed the chance to watch his grandchildren with their many events. Every time I spoke to him, he always had a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed, but know he will still be watching over his family. Vin, Virginia, Amanda & Joey, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I had the honor of knowing Mr. Zacchia and had the pleasure of drinking his homemade wine. He was a great father and Vinnie was blessed to have his father for a full-life. My prayer for the family is that the many fond memories will outlast the pain of losing Mr. Zacchia. God Bless.
