James M. "Mac" McNabola Obituary
MERIDEN - James M. (Mac) McNabola, 79, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He lived in Meriden for 40 years.

He was born Sept. 5, 1933, in New Haven to the late James and Maryellen McNabola. He was raised in New Haven and attended The University of Bridgeport and Willimantic State College attaining his master's degree and sixth year certificate in teaching and administration. He started his career at Mansfield Training School in 1954, eventually transferring into the Meriden school system where he retired in 1985. He worked in the administrative office, was a principal and teacher helping many young people during his tenure. Mac was a past Grand Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 25 in New Haven, member of the Meriden Boy's Club, Ancient Order of Hibernians in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and was a past treasurer of the Meriden Schools Federal Credit Union. After retirement he spent many months in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and traveling throughout the world stopping to see his cousins in Ireland along the way. He was also well known along with his "Dutchess" buddies' for solving the world's problems every morning. He was a semi-pro baseball player in his younger years and enjoyed all sports especially baseball, college basketball, golf, and hockey. He spent many hours in hockey rinks and sports fields throughout the years with his kids, grandchildren and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Marie McNabola; daughter, Kathleen (McNabola) Wood and her husband, Tom Lanz, of Mystic; son, Timothy McNabola, of Wallingford and his wife, Hollyann. He was the proud and loving grandfather of Quinlan and Nicola Wood and Morgan, Brooke and Kendall McNabola. He also leaves behind his cousin, Tom O'Brien and wife, Mary, of Dublin, Ireland; sister-in law, Elizabeth Pascucelli, of Madison; and many great friends he has made throughout his travels.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Meriden Center, MidState Oncology Center, Doctor Neil Scollan, Doctor Gerard Fumo and Hazim Bukamur his caregiver, for all their help and support throughout this difficult time.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, May 2, 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St. Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E Main St. Meriden on Wednesday, May 1, from 4 to 8 pm.
