Joan Strachel Obituary

SOUTHINGTON- Joan K. Strachel, 89, of Southington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Apple Rehab in Plainville. She had been the loving wife of the late Edward Strachel for 37 years.

Joan was born on Sept. 8, 1924, in Brownsville, Pa. At age 17, she ventured to Philadelphia, Pa., where she lived for over 20 years. After moving to Southington and raising her family, she loved working at her part-time bookkeeping position until the tender age of 85. She always felt you needed to keep the mind and the body moving to stay well. She'll be remembered most for her kindness and generosity to all.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Lisa Roberge and her husband, Douglas, of Southington; her son, Robert Teele, of Southington; her six grandchildren, Elisabeth and Halie Roberge, Samantha Oliphant and her husband, Jonathan, James Teele, Jr., and his wife, Kimberly, Scott and Sabrina Teele; five great-grandchildren, Meghan, Justin, Ryan, Olivia and Chloe; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, James Teele.

A funeral service will held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville. Calling hours will be held before the service from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Burial will be held in Immaculate Conception Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
