WALLINGFORD - John (Al) Joseph Fiora, 93, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully, Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Masonic Home in Wallingford. He was the loving husband of 71 years of Stella (Yusza) Fiora.

John was born in Wallingford on Jan. 26, 1921, the son of Adelina (Prosso) and Giaccomo Fiora, and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. He is pre-deceased by his four sisters, all of whom he enjoyed a close relationship. After serving in the Army Corps of Engineers, stationed in the Pacific in World War II, he entered the electrical construction field. He established Fiora Electrical Construction Co. in 1953 and never really retired. In the course of his career he was a proud member of the IBEW for over 65 years, an active member and veteran of the Connecticut chapter of NECA for over 35 years, and served on the JATC Apprenticeship Committee.

John built a cottage for his family on Bashan Lake in East Haddam and always loved the time he got to spend there. His greatest pride and source of joy was his family. He is survived and dearly missed by his wife, Stella; his children, John Jr.; Naomi; James; Richard; Nancy Horbock; Adeline Glidden; and William. He had 14 grandchildren; predeceased by Lauren Glidden; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

John's last weeks were transformed by the kindness and care of many people. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to his caregivers at The Village at Kensington Place, especially Larry and Marta, as well as his aides Sandy and Evelyn, and the Franciscan Hospice team, along with Richard A., neighbor and friend.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial, Tuesday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m. in Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. There will be no public calling hours. Interment with military honors will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to The Needy Student Fund, c/o Sister Katie Kelly at The Holy Trinity School, 11 North Whittlesey Ave., Wallingford, CT 06492.
