MERIDEN - John M. Cerreta, Sr., 87, husband of Dorothy (DeBaise) Cerreta, died on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Bridgeport, on Oct. 19, 1925, he was the son of the late Charles and Jennie (Muchrino) Cerreta. He had resided in Meriden for the past seventy-five years and had attended Bridgeport and Meriden schools. Mr. Cerreta was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, North Haven plant, where he retired from in 1990. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Mr. Cerreta was an avid fan of the New York Giants and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club.

Besides his wife Dorothy, he is survived by two sons, John M. Cerreta, Jr., and his wife, Ann Marie, of North Haven, and Scott C. Cerreta and his wife, Lynn, of Southington; and five grandchildren, Jonathan, Elysia, Krystin, Anthony and Megan.
He is also survived by several nieces and several nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Patrick, Sr., Bernard, and Donald, Sr.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., and at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 p.m. For online condolences please visit
