AVON - Leon Philip DuPlessis M.D., 79, of Avon, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Ann M. Killen DuPlessis of 56 years.

He was born in Kingston, N.Y., Oct. 7, 1934, a son of the late Leon P. and Elizabeth McSpirit DuPlessis. He graduated from Dover Plains High School, attended St. John's University School of Pharmacy, McGill University and McGill University School of Medicine. Dr. DuPlessis served an internship at Hartford Hospital, his Medical Residency at St. Francis Hospital and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Yale University Medical School. He opened a private practice in Hartford, but one year later was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served as chief of Gastroenterology at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas for two years. Upon completion of his military service he opened a practice in El Paso, Texas. r. DuPlessis served as treasurer of the William Beaumont Society, and Chief of Staff at Sun Towers Hospital. He was a member of the Hartford County Medical Society and the El Paso County Medical Society.
In addition to his wife Ann, he is survived by his children, Joseph Leon DuPlessis and his fiancée, Elizabeth Gonzalez, Marie DuPlessis Shuck and her husband, Bill, Leon Philip DuPlessis, P.H.D., P.E., and Noel DuPlessis; his grandchildren, Mariah Camille, Alexa Noel, William Carlton, Aidan Joseph, Grayson DuPlessis and Emma Leigh Shuck; his sister, Claire Childs, of Newark, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Joseph and Nora DuPlessis, of Meriden.
His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, on Wednesday, May 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 8, at 10 a.m. from the funeral home when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.
