NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. - Michael W. Howell, 48, of Reutemann Road, North Stonington, Conn., died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Mary A. (Brennan) Howell, and the devoted and loving father of Amy Lyn Howell.

Born in Westerly, R.I. on April 20, 1965, he was the son of Donald W. and Barbara (McGowan) Howell.

Mike was employed for over 24 years as a fire fighter at Pfizer in Groton, Conn., and at the time of his death was employed at Electric Boat in Groton. He served as union steward for the Local 471 Union.

Mike was also a trained Occupational Health Assistant
Mike was the former fire Chief of the North Stonington Fire Department and was a member of the New London Fire Chiefs, New England Fire Chiefs, and Connecticut Fire Chiefs Associations.

He also enjoyed raising and driving draft ponies with his brother and was a member of the New England Draft Pony Association. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed tournament fishing. He also enjoyed racing go-carts at Leo Hills.

He is also survived by his brother; Gregory M. Hill. of North Stonington; his nephew, Nathan Howell, and cousin, Carrie Daugherty, of Florida; and many other cousins. He also leaves his two pit bulls, Xena and Able.

A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 12 p.m. in the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, R.I. Calling hours will precede the service from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial will follow in River Bend Cemetery.
