Shirley Berardino Obituary
Born in Meriden on Nov. 17, 1919, to the late Ernest T. and Rose Moore Bradley, Shirley was a lifelong Meriden resident. In addition to raising her family, Shirley worked for many years in the banking industry. She later served as a manager with the Meriden Housing Authority, overseeing 500 elderly housing apartments. Shirley was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Meriden where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. For the last 13 years, she attended the Middlefield Federated Church. Shirley was a member of the Meriden Golden K Kiwanis Club and the Soroptomists. She also served as a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society and as a volunteer at the MidState Medical Center for 30 years. While a resident of the Bradley Home, Shirley enjoyed weaving and won many special awards at the Durham Fair. She also served as a chaplain.
Shirley was the loving mother of Jean Lee Meyers and her husband, John McConaughy, of New York, Jay Berardino and his wife, Betsy Gara, of Durham, and the late James Di Berardino. She was also the beloved grandmother of John (Tammy) Sydoriak, of Wisconsin, Jim Sydoriak, of Ellington, Lisa (Chris) Golebiewski, of Meriden, Jon Berardino, of Meriden, Jason (Bailey) Berardino, of Middlefield, Rachel (Mario Lupone) Berardino, of Clinton, and Jim Berardino, of Durham; and beloved great-grandmother of Jamie and Jason Sydoriak, Zackary and Joseph Golebiewski and Abigail Berardino. Shirley was an amazing woman, whose twinkling blue eyes, warm smile and sage advice will be deeply missed by all of her friends and family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, July 30, 11 a.m.at the Middlefield Federated Church, 390 Main St. Middlefield. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Shirley's memory to the Shirley Bradley Berardino Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Citizens Bank, 376 Main Street, Durham, CT 06422. The fund will benefit Meriden high school graduates interested in pursuing a career in teaching. For further information, please visit www.beecherandbennett.com

What fond memories of "Mrs. B" I have from my growing up years at First Baptist! She was an amazing woman with a wonderful personality, warm smile, contagious laugh & a love for people that she freely shared. She holds a very special place in my heart and I feel fortunate to have had her in my life. I was quite pleased to meet up with her again on several occasions while visiting my aunt at the Bradley Home. She will surely be missed by many. I am certain the world is a better place because of her presence. My sincere condolences to Jay , Jean & all the extended family; may God grant you comfort in happy memories and from those who will remember your mom with love.

I am so sorry for your loss. Shirley was such a presence in the lives of all she met. A better friend, grandmother, aunt or Mother you couldn't find. Her smile and wit were were enormous. i will miss my aunt Sis very much! She always made us laugh with all her jokes and her comical little hoochie dances.She always had a smile and a hug for everyone. I know that she is up there in heaven having a wonderful time with both gram and grandpa. Love you aunt Sis!

Aunt Sis,
How could any of us ever forget you? You taught us that special song “Hooray for “xxxx “ happy birthday song. My family still sings it at every birthday. It will forever be passed on, believe me. We have so many memories of Elm St. parties, Rogers Lake –the Clam bakes etc.

I remember meeting her at some point years ago and she was just a nice as she has been described. Her smile was infectious - her positive attitude was constant. We met many years ago, and I was happy to see her weekly at Bradley Home when visiting my mom. Shirley always made me feel better about myself; she brought happiness, and encouragement to many. I will miss her smiling face and wonderful personality; It was an honor to know and be known by her.

On behalf of the Landsberg family, thank you for sharing Shirley will us. We had the privilege of knowing her only since she and our folks were at Bradley Home, but she made a big difference in our lives.
