Wallis Battles

WALLINGFORD - Wallis Battles, 95, formerly of the Yalesville section of Wallingford, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 at the Connecticut Baptist Home in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of the late Olive M. Dadmun Battles.

Born in Cushman, Ark., March 10, 1918, a son of the late Lonzo F. and Naomi Wallis Battles, he had been a Yalesville resident for many years. He had been employed by the Connecticut Light and Power Co. for many years until his retirement. He was the past-president of the Wallingford AARP and was an active member of the Yalesville United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II and the Korean War.

Wallis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and is survived by his daughters, Sharyn Kovalsky and her husband, Peter, of Ashtabula, Ohio; and Darleen Corbett and her husband, Peter, of Northampton, Mass.; his son, Gary Battles and his wife, Pamela, of Wallingford; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in Massachusetts and Oklahoma. He was predeceased by his brother, L.F., and sister, Eloise.

Burial will be private at the Spring Grove Cemetery, Northampton, Mass. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Yalesville United Methodist Church, 8 New Place St., Yalesville, CT 06492.
