WALLINGFORD - William J. Proto Sr., 93, beloved husband of 65 years of Imogene Barton Proto, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

William was born in Branford, March 3, 1921, a son of the late Pasquale Proto and Rose Pepe Proto and had been a Wallingford resident for 61 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II having served with the 379th Anti-Aircraft Battalion and was employed by the International Silver Company for 36 years until his retirement. He enjoyed tending to his garden at home and crabbing and clamming in Branford.

In addition to his wife Imogene, he is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Sutherland and her husband, George Sutherland, of North Carolina; his son, William J. Proto Jr., of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Mary Streeto and Venter Giordano; and four brothers, James, Frank, Pasquale, and Anthony Proto.

Funeral services and Interment in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford will be private. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to Gaylord Hospital P.O. Box 400, Gaylord Farms Road, Wallingford, CT. 06492 or MidState Medical Center, 435 Lewis Ave., Meriden, CT. 06451. Arrangements are under the direction of The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St. Yalesville section of Wallingford.
