WATERBURY - Barbara O. Brady, beloved wife of the late Joseph T. Brady, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Waterbury Hospital. She was born on Aug. 29, 1931, and would have celebrated her 80th birthday this year.
The Guest Book is expired.
Mrs. Brady was born in Meriden, the daughter of the late Raymond and Nellie (Fortunato) Oefinger. She graduated from Meriden High School in 1949, and earned a baccalaureate degree in elementary education from Danbury Teachers College in 1953. Shortly after graduation, she joined the faculty of Evergreen School, Plainfield, N.J., where she inspired her first graders to discover the world around them.
Mom and Joe shared 37 magical years of marriage. Together they raised four successful sons, Raymond, Charles, Dennis and Timothy. She was very actively involved in her sons' academic as well as athletic undertakings. She was a member of the Kennedy High School swim team and Football Parents Association and the treasurer of the Cheshire Academy Parents Association. She enjoyed playing scrabble with her sons, traveling with the family and playing bridge with the neighborhood club.
Outside her family responsibilities, she was very interested in local government. She threw her hat into the political arena, running for Waterbury Town Clerk on the Verriker ticket in the 70s. Once her children were well on their way, in 1982 she became an officer of the Travel Center, working alongside her husband, Joe, for 10 wonderful, exiting years. During those years, she developed a reputation for delivering world class customer service to the myriad of Waterburians that crossed the Travel Center's threshold.
Mrs. Brady is survived by her four sons, Raymond O. Brady, of Farmington Hills, Mich. and his wife, Kathleen, Charles J. Brady, of Southington and his wife, Grace, Dennis J. Brady, of Southbury and his wife, Laurie, and Timothy M. Brady, of Thomaston and his wife, Michelle. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Kimberly, Erin, Jillian, Patrick, Joseph, Michael, Timothy, Dennis, Samantha and Therese. She also leaves four great-grandchildren, Ryder and Charlotte Davis and Raymond and Samantha Donahue. Each of their lives was touched in a very special and unique way by "Gram", and she will live in their hearts forever.
Mom, you will be greatly missed. We are at peace knowing that you and Joe are together. We love you.
