MERIDEN - Daniel I. Biernacki in his 90th year of life, left this world on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012. He was the husband of Lorraine R. (Delesdernier), his loving wife of 63 years.

Dan was born on Dec. 6, 1922, in Masschusetts. A longtime resident of Meriden, he designed and built his home here, in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright. It was the first all electric house in town, which his family treasures to this day. He enjoyed his work as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 24 until his retirement in 1987. Dan proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and occupied Japan during World War II as an MP and male nurse. He devoted his life to healthy living and his concern for health led him to be one of the few parents to use sunscreen on his children's skin. Dan was very active in weightlifting and body building. He received the honor of induction into the Weightlifting Hall of Fame in Masschusetts in 1995. Dan was an avid Ham Radio enthusiast, a member of the American Legion, the Carpenter's Retiree's Club and the Meriden Amateur Radio Club for over 40 years.

Besides his wife Lorraine, Mr. Biernacki is survived by his four children, Shelley Jackson and her husband, Ted, Gail Edgington and her husband, Dave, Daniel Biernacki and Katie Killer and Thomas Biernacki; five grandchildren, Jeremiah Jackson, Heather Borak and her husband, Brian, Zachary Jackson, Michael Edgington and Dawn Merchant; six great-grandchildren, Emily Cabanas, Madilynn Borak, Eric Edgington, Brendon Borak, Kyle Edgington and Tessa Merchant.

Please join us to celebrate Dan's life. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, Oct. 4, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden.
