BRANFORD - Donald E. Banta, of Branford, formerly of Meriden, died peacefully in Connecticut Hospice on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012.

Don was born Dec. 30, 1925, in West Haven, son of the late Edwin and Marjorie Cone Banta. Don served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in the Panama Canal during World War II. He formerly worked at the Southington Stop & Shop. He loved his interactions with his co-workers and his customers in the produce department. He was the life of the party, a very funny story teller, and will be missed by many.

Don is survived by his daughters, Allison (John) Brancato, of Guilford, and Margie (Don) Cherry, of Gillespie, Ill.; his brothers, Harold, Robert, Warren and Paul Banta; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a brother, Edwin Banta.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 N.
