WALLINGFORD - Genevieve Bohan Thalberg, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2014.

She was born in Southington, on June 21, 1922, to Clifford and Margaret Gannon Bohan. She was married to the late Dr. Reuben E. Thalberg, of Southington. Genevieve attended Lewis High School and graduated from Junior College of Commerce (now Quinnipiac University) as an accounting major. She received her CT Certificate as a CPA in 1949 and was the second woman CPA in the State of Connecticut. Her first position was a small CPA firm in New Haven. She later accepted a position as assistant to the partner of a Stamford firm which later became Ernst & Whinney. In her private practice she established a business relationship with the law firm of Cummings & Lockwood. She was an active member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants and eventually became the first woman to serve on the Board of Trustees. She was also a past president of the Auxiliary to the Hartford County Medical Assoc. Genevieve and Reuben were elected to Brandeis University Board of Fellows. Genevieve was nominated in 1979 to Yale-New Haven Hospital's Board of Trustees and enjoyed her long and productive tenure on the budget-finance committee. Genevieve was an integral part of The Reuben E. Thalberg Foundation, Inc. established by Dr. Thalberg in 1954. The Foundation awarded scholarships to Southington graduating seniors to help defray college costs. The final gift by the Foundation was to the Southington Board of Education for the purchase of Smartboards at all elementary schools. Many other organizations also benefited from her philanthropy. Genevieve was a longtime member of the Farms Country Club of Wallingford, The QClub and Graduate Club of New Haven.
She is survived by her two first cousins, George Patrick Bohan Jr., of Brevard, N.C., and Stewart Bohan and his wife, Joan, of Middletown. Her nephew Dr. Lester Jacobson and wife, Lisa, of San Francisco, Calif.; nieces, Miriam Nelson and her husband, Ben, of Englewood, N.J., and Beverly Schultz and her husband, Dr. Martin Schultz, of Woodbridge; nephew, Dr. David Silverstone and his wife, Barbara, of Branford. Gen also leaves other nieces, nephews; cousins and dear friends.
