MERIDEN - George Schiavone, 94, husband of Emily (Augustyn) Schiavone for 66 years, died on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden on May 22, 1918, he was the son of the late Anthony and Rose (Paula) Schiavone. He resided in Meriden most of his life and enjoyed spending time with family at their vacation home in Falmouth, Mass. He graduated Meriden High School in 1936. Upon graduation, he attended Parsons School of Design in New York City where he studied Fine Art and Graphic Design. Mr. Schiavone was employed by Wilson, Haight and Welch in Hartford, Bond Press in Hartford and retired from Northeast Utilities in 1983, where he ran the graphic arts department. He was a veteran of World War II, having served from 1941 to 1945 in the South Pacific in the U.S. Army. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and a member of the Elks-Meriden, YMCA Y's-Men of Meriden, and the Meriden High School Alumni Association. George was a true gentleman, who enjoyed the Arts, traveling with his wife, and spending time with his immediate and extended family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Laura Schiavone, of Southington, Betsy Schiavone, of West Hartford, and Polly Schiavone and her husband, Mark Gardner, of Rye, N.Y.; one son, Jack Schiavone and his wife, Debra, of Providence, R.I.; seven grandchildren, Andrew Martinelli and his wife, Susan, of Southington, Emily Jadach and her husband, Eric, of Seymour, Jackie, Nina, and Brian Gardner, of Rye N.Y., Michael and Jane Schiavone, of Providence R.I.; and two great-grandsons, Luke Martinelli and Logan Jadach. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by seven sisters; and three brothers.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
