MERIDEN - Herbert G. Pittman, 78, husband of the late Joan MacConaghy Pittman, died on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at Masonicare with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Arlington, Mass., on Nov. 12, 1933. He was the son of the late Raymond and Evaline (Prebble) Pittman. Mr. Pittman was employed by the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Local 21 for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of PLAV and the Polish Falcons. He was the past president for the union, where he served many years as their business agent until his retirement in 1992. He was an avid fisherman, sports fan and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete in sports.

He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Jordan and Kris Nadwairski; one son, Herbert Pittman and his wife, Claudette; five grandchildren, Cory Pittman and fiancée, Samantha, Kathleen (Pittman) Camire and her husband, Robert, Christopher Pittman, Jennifer Dishereits, and Tesla Nadwairski; two great-grandchildren, Kanelo Pittman and Layla Pittman. He is also survived by his two sisters, Julia and Nevie. He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond; and his sister, Barbara.

Family and friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden, on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services and burial will be private.
