CHESHIRE - Iris Elaine (Brielman) Hecht, 89, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of John Hecht.

Iris was born in Meriden, May 22, 1924, the only child of the late Harold and Mattie (Folce) Brielman. Iris was a member of the Turners Gymnastics team. A dancer, swimmer, and softball player on the International Silver Company team, where she worked as a secretary at Factory T. After marrying, she moved to Cheshire in 1946. She worked on the family poultry farm and managed an egg route for many years. Iris was also a Red Cross swimming instructor in Cheshire through the 50's and 60's, and performed in water ballet. In the 70's, Iris was a bookkeeper at her daughter's dance studio. Iris loved children, and animals, and being with her family and friends. She had a sweet disposition, beautiful smile, pretty blue eyes and laughed a lot. Her only fault was she worried too much about other people. Iris was a caregiver to her mom after her dad died, and two of her aunts, always going out of her way to help others.
Iris is survived by her husband of 68 years, John, of Cheshire; her son, Jack Hecht and his wife, Judy, of Congers, N.Y.; her daughter, Jean Martin, who lived with her in Cheshire; her grandchildren, Brandon Martin and his wife, Christina, of Bristol, Christopher Hecht, of Falls Church, Va,. Matthew Hecht and Marc Hecht, both of Congers, N.Y.; and three great-grandchildren, Evan, Caelia and Zoe.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 3, in the Chapel of Walnut Grove Cemetery, 817 Old Colony Road, Meriden. There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Meriden Humane Society, 311 Murdock Ave., Meriden, CT. 06451.
