MERIDEN - James N. Azzolina, 94, of Meriden, formerly of Delray Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was the husband of the late Irene T. Azzolina.

Born in Meriden on July 19, 1917, son of the late Lucia and Salvatore Azzolina. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Nicholas.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and graduated from Morse College in Hartford. He owned and operated The Music Box in Meriden for over 20 years before retiring to Florida. He loved playing the trumpet and had his own band that played throughout Connecticut. He continued to play the trumpet long into his retirement, playing in a quartet with Guy Lombardo's brother, Victor.

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Azzolina, of Ivoryton; his son, Jay Azzolina, of Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.; his granddaughters, Deborah Hogan-Cho, Kathleen McGuire and Sofia Azzolina; his great-grandchildren, Lauren, Connor, Gavin, Ella and Aiden.
