BERLIN - Jean J. Putnam, wife of Wallace Putnam passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 at Hartford Hospital.

She was born March 30, 1935 in Meriden, a daughter of the late Stanley and Sophie (Brys) Gniewek. Jean attended St. Mary's Church in Meriden, loved animals and enjoyed a nice garden. She had worked at Domino Press many years ago but her greatest passion was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, Wallace of 59 years, Jean is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Daniel Roy, of Canada and Kathleen and Paul Gudelski, of Maryland; a son, Steven Putnam, of Berlin; and 12 grandchildren, Jean, Paul, Sabrina, Michele, Daniel, William Jr., Eric, Jamie, Kyle, Joshua, Julie and Steven Jr. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren; plus three great-grandchildren on the way; two sisters, Joan Gonzalez, of Florida and Barbara Putnam, of Southington; a brother, Stanley Gniewek, of Maryland; and her best friend, Shirley Jakiela; as well as many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Cooper.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 27, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary Church, 5 Sherman Place, Meriden. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden on Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, prior to the service.
