WALLINGFORD - Joseph P.N. DeRoy, 83, of Ashlar Village, Wallingford, died, Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Masonicare Health Center. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth "Betty" Hamilton DeRoy.

He was born in Millbury, Mass., Oct. 26, 1929, a son of the late Narcisse and Bernadette Gagne DeRoy and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He moved to Wallingford in 1955, and most recently resided at Ashlar Village. He had been employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in North Haven for over 35 years and was Past President of the International Association of Machinists. Joseph was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church and an active parish bazaar volunteer. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Wallingford Boy's Club, acted as a boy scouts leader, and enjoyed camping, square dancing and traveling.

In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Joseph and Isabelle DeRoy, of Florida, James and Karyn DeRoy, of Massachusetts, John and Deborah DeRoy, of Portland, Bernadette and Richard Smeriglio, of Wallingford, Michael and Catherine DeRoy, of Farmington, and Mary and Ronald Bimonte, of Wallingford; his grandchildren, Glenna, J. Cole, and Theresa DeRoy, J. Luke and Joelle DeRoy, Erin and Renee DeRoy, Richard, Nicole and Benjamin Smeriglio, John and Mairead DeRoy and Zachary and Rachel Bimonte; his sisters, Viola, Doris, Lucille and Marie; his brothers, Laurent, Bernard, and J. Philip; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his step-mother, Marie Louise DeRoy; and his siblings, Yves, Theresa, Margaret, Veronica and Viateur.

His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Masonicare for the excellent care that they provided.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Most Holy Trinity Church Thursday, Feb. 7, at 11:30 a.m. His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., before the Mass from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. Gifts in his memory may be sent to Most Holy Trinity Church, 68 N.
