Kevin Appell Obituary

MERIDEN - Kevin C. Appell, 40, of Meriden - Let's face it, on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, the world lost someone that just can't be replaced.

He came into this world kicking and screaming on May 28, 1974, in New Haven, son of Roger A. Appell and the late Linda (Deming) Appell. If he wasn't running from his older brothers, he was on the track with the track team at Lyman Hall where he graduated class of 1993. Kevin was a guy who started as a cook but ended up helping us all sneeze a little less, working for Protein Sciences, who manufactures flu vaccines. He gained a reputation, not just because of who he was, but because of the work ethic and pride he displayed. As a true "Dead Head" he lived the life, and it was anything but ordinary. Possessions weren't his life, people were, and as such he was always the guy finding a good deal on a hoody at the Salvation Army, or an outlet store. He loved chilling outside and golfing, (FORE!). He loved rocking out to the bands String Cheese and Shinedown. He was pretty good at fishing and could raid your refrigerator and make one hell of a meal. Oh wait, did we mention the numerous flip-flops that met their demise as a result of his shuffling around?

He left behind his biggest fans: his dad, Roger, of Wyoming, his big brothers, Michael, also of Wyoming, and Brian and his wife, Amy of Massachusetts. Hey, did we also mention he had two awesome nieces, Ella Rose and Fauna Belle, both of Massachusetts? And who could forget his partner in crime, Jeremy Waycott, of Wallingford; along with some aunts, uncles; cousins; and if you were lucky enough to be called a friend of his then, of course, you?! We all know the party of life continued when he wrapped his arms around his Mom, Linda - God, it must be awesome to see her again.

Dude, here's the deal, you should totally head down to the B. C. Bailey Funeral Home (let's face it, it's probably nicer than his friends' houses, but it's all we got) on Saturday, Nov.29, from 10 a.m. in the morning until 1 p.m. in the afternoon. Be advised, if you're wearing a suit, we will laugh at you! Hoodies are preferred, and if you wanna wear flip flops, cool, and boy do we mean cool, after all it's winter. Then at 1 p.m. we're all going to behave ourselves and say some pretty nice things. Burial, well you're off the hook because it's private. If you wanna do something to recognize his coolness, then you should make a donation to the Shriner's Hospital and Burn Center; that can do so much more than flowers. Donate online at www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org or via snail-mail to: Office of Development, Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607. Kevin may you rest in peace. We feel cheated, but only God knows why he needed to take you from us so soon. You will always live in our hearts because you were a true friend so much that you became a big part of our family, and the kids are as heartbroken as we are because you are no longer with us. We will always love you, never forget you. You will be there when your friends play your favorite music, and at every golf game. To the Appell family again, our condolences on this huge loss. May God give you the strength to go on.

To say Kevin was one hard worker, is an understatement; to say Kevin had the biggest heart of anybody I, or probably you have known, is an understatement; to say Kevin was one of the most sensitive people I ever knew, is an understatement; to say Kevin always (& I mean always)put all others before himself, is an understatement; to say I always looked forward to seeing & playing golf with Kevin, is an understatement. Kevin is the only person of my son's age group who could call me "dude", it was accepted as Kevin offered with respect & love. To say Kevin will be sorely missed, is an understatement.
My sincere sympathies to his dad, Mike, Brian, Amy, his nieces, and all his extended family including his bonded brothers Jeremy, Shawn, and Dana. Keep 'em laughing Kevin!

My condolences to Kevins family and friends.. I didn't know Kevin personally but heard about the fire and was saddened of what happened. I would like to say that Kevins obituary was one of the most heart touching and most unique ever and loved it... It showed how this young man lived life and enjoyed it to the fullest which is awesome to hear. His obituary was very personal and touching to read what an extraordinary person Kevin was. Once again my deepest sympathy to his family and friends, God bless. Eileen Cardona Meriden resident.

I grew up with Kevin and recently saw him at Colony Lanes, right away he recognized me and came over to our table to say what's up. It was early Sunday morning and he had the party already started enjoying his friends, bowling and beer. What a great way to spend a Sunday morning. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Appell family.

I have not seen Kevin in quite a few years. And when I read the news of his untimely passing I was heartbroken. I grew up with all the brothers and have fond memories of our times together. After reflecting on those times, I can honestly say Kevin was one of the most true and honest people I have ever met. He was a "good" man down to his core who cared greatly about his family and his friends. To his family, his father, Michael and Brian; I am very sorry for your loss. Although time has passed us all by, you were all part of some of the best years of my life. I hope you find some semblance of peace in knowing how many people Kevin touched in such a positive way. When they walked away from him, even if it was just a simple conversation, I think most would say they walked away feeling a little bit better about themselves. I don't know if there is a greater compliment I can give. My thoughts and prayers are for Kevin, his brothers and father, his family and friends. Rest in peace old friend.

Roger, Michael and Brian.....The years that I spent babysitting for the boys were some of the happiest days of my youth. I am heartsick to hear of the loss of Kevin. My deepest sympathies to your entire family. He has been reunited with his mom and has probably already made friends with my son Mark. I will pray for strength to see you through the ensuing days.....with much love, Lynne
