WALLINGFORD - Lester C. Shortell, 88, of Wallingford, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Masonicare of Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Jean S. Green Shortell.

Born in New Haven, Nov. 27, 1923, a son of the late Carl L. and Rose Gingras Shortell, he was a lifelong Wallingford resident. He had been employed by the Town of Wallingford Electric Division for many years until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the VFW post 591. He was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church.

Besides his wife Jean, he is survived by his six children, Lisa Festa and her husband, Louis, of Wallingford, Carl Shortell and his wife, Lynn, of Southington, Greg Shortell and his wife, Ellen, of Amston, Sean Shortell, of Mansfield Center, Beth Oliva and her husband, Robert, of Southington, and Toby Shortell and his wife, Marie, of Meriden; his 13 grandchildren, Melissa, Kelly, Kristen, Pierce, Connor, Erik, Mitchell, Nathan, Paul, Anthony, Tianna, Ryleigh and Devin; his four great-grandchildren, Iszaiah, Jayden, Mason, and Olivia; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mildred Bellows and Helen Brown; and his brothers, Richard Shortell, Wilbur Shortell, Francis Shortell, and Russell Shortell.

Lester's family wishes to thank Linda, Crystal, and Nicole from Masonicare for their kindness and compassion to Dad and our family. We will love dad and miss him forever.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from The Wallingford Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Masonicare Home Health Care & Hospice 33 North Plains Industrial Road., Wallingford, CT 06492.
