MERIDEN- Luigi Vumbaca, 76, of South Meriden, beloved husband of Teresa Demasi Vumbaca, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his loving wife.

Luigi was born in Corona, N.Y., March 23, 1937, a son of the late Luigi Vumbaca and Francesca Marcellino. He had been a South Meriden resident for many years and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in North Haven until his retirement and was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church. Luigi loved the simple pleasures of life, such as tending to his vegetable and flower gardens; he was a gentle man, who loved his wife, his family and his friends.

Besides his loving wife Teresa of 47 years, he is survived by his sister, Carmela Nigro and her husband, Nicola, of Italy; and his brother, Frank Vumbaca and his wife, Maria, of South Meriden; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Julio Demasi and his wife, Maria, of Troy, N.Y., Eugenio Demasi and his wife, Lina, of Meriden, Giuseppe Demasi and his wife, Isabella, of Australia, Domenico Demasi and his wife, Hersilia, of Italy, Eleonora Trichilo and her husband, Ralph, of Australia and Sara Demasi, of Italy; and many nieces and nephews; grandnieces; and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Vincenzo Demasi, of Italy.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Sunday, Feb. 23, from 4 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 24, from The Wallingford Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Holy Angels Church in South Meriden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Luigi's memory may be sent to the Holy Angels Capital Campaign, 585 Main St., South Meriden, CT. 06451.
