Raymond Bartel Obituary

WALLINGFORD - Raymond J. Bartel Sr., 89, of Center St., Wallingford, died Friday, April 9, 2010, at MidState Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Regina M. Kinsella Bartel.

He was born in Wallingford, May 29, 1920, a son of the late Frank and Anna Otto Bartel and was a graduate of Holy Trinity School, Lyman Hall High School and Laurel College. Mr. Bartel was a World War II veteran having served with the 8th Air Force. He had been employed as a Public Accountant with the firms of George Mackowitz & Co., and McNamee and Hecklinger. He later worked as an office manager for the Ahearn Development Corp., and Robert J. Greene Construction Inc. before retiring. He was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church where he was one of the first lectors and served on the Parish Council, The Bazaar Committee and was an active usher. He was a member of the Public Celebration Committee having previously served as Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. He served as Treasurer of the Jubilee 325 and Jubilee 2000.

He is survived by his three sons, Raymond J. Bartel Jr. and his wife, Karen of Wallingford, Frank M. Bartel and his wife, Elaine of Oxford and John K. Bartel of Wallingford; his three grandchildren, Tricia, Samantha and Connor; his sister, Gertrude Bartel Austin of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Frances Dorsey; and three brothers, Martin, Alfred and John Bartel.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday, April 13, 2010, from 4 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment, with military honors, will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his Memory may be sent to Holy Trinity School, 11 N. Whittlesey Ave., or Holy Trinity Church, 68 N. Colony St., Wallingford, CT 06492. www.wallingfordfh.com.
