MERIDEN - Robert L. LaQuerre Sr., 89, husband of the late Irene (Drechsler) LaQuerre, died peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden on June 11, 1925, he was the son of the late Raoul and Beatrice (Barriere) LaQuerre. He had attended local schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served three years in the Pacific during World War II at Marshall, Gilbert and Carolina Islands as an Aviator Torpedo Man 2nd Class. Mr. LaQuerre was employed by the Meriden Fire Department for 27 years before his retirement as a Fire Inspector in July, 1977. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and member of the American Legion Post 0045 as well as the Police and Firefighter & Widows Association, where he served as treasurer for six years.

He is survived by three sons, Robert LaQuerre,Jr., and his wife, Stella, of New Britain, Gerald Drechsler and his wife, Faith, of Westbrook and Mark Drechsler and his wife, Dorothy, of Southington; two daughters, Joy Dondero and her husband, Richard, of Clinton and Mary Drechsler, of Meriden; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, James D. LaQuerre; a grandson, Michael T. Dondero; a brother, Raoul LaQuerre; and a sister, Bernadette Knopp.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be held on Wednesday, July 2, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial with military honors will be in State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Tuesday, (TODAY)1, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.
