SOUTHINGTON - Shirley A. (Millette) Ackerman, 73, of the Plantsville section of Southington, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at the John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. She was the wife of Bernard E. Ackerman.

Born Sept. 28, 1939, in Burlington, Vt., she was a daughter of the late Albert and Bernadette (Bishop) Millette. Shirley was a faithful Christian and a devout member of the Faith Living Church. Her many ministries in life were to help others in their time of need and putting everyone else before herself. She loved not only her own children but the many children that she cared for from her own family members to the children at the Faith Living Nursery. Shirley also worked for various Friendly's Restaurants in Meriden for 30 years.
In addition to her husband she leaves her children, Richard E. Ackerman and partner, Mark, of Palm Harbor, Fla., Tammy Kijanka and husband, Keith, of Trinity, Fla., and Brenda Lee Crosby, of Berlin; two brothers, Richard Millette, of Milford and Frank Millette, of Colchester; three sisters, Barbara Jameson, of Plantsville, Madeleine Benoit and Rita Forman, both of S. Burlington, Vt.; three grandchildren, Chasity Crosby, Kyle Kijanka and Tayler Kijanka. She also leaves a nephew, Sean Jameson and wife, Stacy and their three children. She was predeceased by a daughter, Tracey Lynn Ackerman.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 250 Gypsy Lane, Meriden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation/Tri-State Chapter, 59 Front St., Binghamton, NY, 13905. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N.
