MERIDEN - John G. Perlot (Gene), age 91, of Meriden, died on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 after a brief illness. He was predeceased by Elphy, his loving wife of 67 year,s and their son Robert.

He is survived by his children, Peggy Saindon and her husband, Jerry; Barbara Borofsky and her husband, Mark; Mark Perlot and his wife, Cheryl; and Dick Perlot and his wife, Betty. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christine Duty, Michael Saindon, Ashley Borofsky, Alex Borofsky, Griffin Perlot, Kara Brasfield, and Kristen Bloschock. His great-grandchildren, who were all precious to him, are Joshua and Samantha Duty; Aiden and AJ Saindon; and Jesse Brasfield. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Coast Guard protecting troops from enemy submarines. Gene was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after more than forty years of service.

Gene was an avid Yankees fan and rarely missed watching a game. He loved to attend the sporting events of his grandchildren to cheer them on. Gene spent as much time as he could on the golf course and helped his children and grandchildren enjoy the game with his company. He especially enjoyed his trips to Florida with his wife each winter. Gene was also a very active supporter and participant in the activities of the Alzheimer's Resource Center of Plantsville. Gene's quiet, gentle personality made all who got to know him, love him.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Laurent Church, 121 Camp St. in Meriden, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St. in Meriden, from 4 to7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
